Two kinds of job in one suburb
In the houses, it is the usual pattern for an established suburb. Under-sink filters going into kitchens that were not designed with one in mind, and cartridge changes on systems that have been quietly loading up for years.
In the workplaces around the rail corridor and the commercial frontage, it is a different animal entirely — higher volume, a genuine cost attached to downtime, and often an appliance rather than a person as the thing being protected.
The two share a plumber and a licence and almost nothing else. It is worth knowing which one you are ringing about, because the sizing conversation is completely different.
Commercial filtration in Kenwick
The single most common mistake we are called in to correct is a commercial system sized on household numbers.

A cartridge rated to last a family six months will get through its life in a fraction of that behind a busy coffee machine, a glass washer or a workshop line. Nothing is faulty. The filter is simply doing several times the work it was specified for, and the owner concludes that filters are a rip-off when really the sizing was wrong on day one.
The other thing that gets missed is where the unit can physically live. In a commercial space, filters end up in plant rooms, behind built-in joinery, under benches that do not move, or outside near the meter. Whether a cartridge can be changed there without shifting something heavy is part of the quote. It should not be a discovery six months later.
And downtime gets planned. In a house, the water off for part of a morning is an inconvenience. In a premises that trades, it is the trading day, so we work out when the isolation happens and how long it lasts before anything is cut.
Residential work in Kenwick
The domestic side is more familiar.
Most calls start with the drinking water — a taste, a smell, or chlorine that somebody has stopped being willing to put up with. For that, an under-sink filter at the kitchen is almost always the right answer, and it is the cheapest correct one. A housing in the cupboard, plumbed off the cold feed, running to a small separate tap on the sink. Under-sink installation
What decides how the job goes is the cabinet and the valve. In an established Kenwick kitchen the isolation valve on the cold feed has often been in place a very long time, and a valve that has not moved in decades does not always survive being asked to. That is not a reason to avoid the job — it is a reason for the valve to be a line on the quote rather than a phone call from under your sink.
When the mains is the right place
If the complaint is turning up in the shower, the laundry or on fittings, a kitchen filter will not help, because it treats one tap.

A mains system treats everything downstream of where the water enters, including the hot water system. Bigger unit, bigger cartridges, and it needs a sheltered spot with clearance to service it. Whole house filtration
Perth's Integrated Water Supply Scheme, which feeds Kenwick, is roughly 44.6% groundwater, 36% desalinated seawater and 18.7% surface water, and the blend shifts through the year. Filtration is good at sediment, chlorine, taste and smell. It does not remove dissolved minerals — Water Corporation puts elevated hardness at 200 mg/L under the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, and that is a different kind of system. We will tell you which part of your problem is which.
Bores and yards
About one in four Perth household gardens runs on a private bore into the shallow Superficial aquifer, and around Kenwick's larger yards and working blocks there are plenty.
Untreated groundwater staining paving, blocking sprinklers or fouling fittings is a separate job with separate equipment, kept entirely separate from the drinking supply. Bore water filtration
