The honest version of what most people need
A lot of filtration marketing is aimed at selling the biggest system somebody will agree to. In Langford, the right answer is usually the small one, and we would rather say so.
If your complaint is the taste of the drinking water, the smell of it, or the chlorine — an under-sink cartridge filter feeding a small separate tap at the kitchen sink deals with all three. It is the cheapest correct answer. It does not need a location outside, it does not need bigger pipework, and servicing it later is a short visit rather than an event.
The system that treats the whole house costs more to buy and more to maintain, and it is the right answer when the problem is showing up in the shower, the laundry or on your fittings. If that is not your problem, it is not your system. Under-sink installation
What we check before pricing it
Three things, and all of them need a look rather than a phone call.

The isolation valve on the cold feed
It has to shut when the filter is being serviced. In an established Langford kitchen this valve is often the original, and asking a valve to move for the first time in a very long while is how a small job occasionally becomes a slightly larger one. Better it is a line on the quote than a surprise.
The room in the cabinet
The housing mounts to the side wall rather than sitting on the base, and it needs clearance to swing a cartridge out later. The waste trap frequently occupies exactly the space you would most like.
The tap hole
Some sinks have a spare knockout in a sensible spot. Plenty do not, and then the benchtop has to be drilled — stone slowly with diamond tooling, laminate with the cut edge sealed properly afterwards, stainless with the right cutter.
None of that is difficult. All of it changes the price, which is why the free visit exists.
Rentals, changeovers and mystery filters
Langford has a good mix of owner-occupied and rented housing, and that produces a specific kind of call.
Somebody moves in, opens the cupboard under the sink, and finds a filter. Nobody knows who fitted it, when it was last serviced, or what cartridge goes in it. The label is unreadable and there is no paperwork, because the paperwork left with whoever installed it.
That is a normal job for us. We identify the housing from the housing, not from the label, fit the right cartridge, and replace the seal at the same time — because a seal that has sat undisturbed for years usually weeps once it is finally opened. You end up knowing what you have got and when the next one is due. Cartridge replacement

Why the water tastes different some months
This comes up on nearly every quote, so it is worth putting in writing.

Perth's Integrated Water Supply Scheme, which feeds Langford, is a blend — roughly 44.6% groundwater, 36% desalinated seawater and 18.7% surface water, with a little groundwater replenishment. The proportions move through the year. So the water genuinely is not the same in March as it was in September, and noticing that does not mean anything has gone wrong.
What a good cartridge filter does is even that out at the tap you drink from. What it does not do is remove dissolved minerals — Water Corporation puts elevated hardness at 200 mg/L under the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, and hardness is what furs up a kettle. If scale is your complaint, that is a different system and we will say so. Reverse osmosis
Bores in Langford gardens
About one in four Perth household gardens runs off a private garden bore into the shallow Superficial aquifer. If yours is staining paving or blocking sprinkler heads, that is untreated groundwater, it is a separate system, and it stays separate from the house supply. Bore water filtration
