A suburb that went up across a defined period ends up doing a lot of things at once, and filtration is no exception.
The kitchens are of a similar vintage and a similar layout, which makes the installs predictable — decent cabinet space, modern-enough pipework, and an isolation valve on the cold feed that will generally shut when asked. Compared to the older townsite kitchens a few suburbs east, it is a straightforward job most of the time.
What it also means is that the systems fitted here went in around similar times, and the cartridges, seals and housings reach the same point together. If your flow at the filtered tap has dropped off, there is a reasonable chance your neighbour's has as well.

The commercial side
Canning Vale is not only housing. The commercial and light-industrial run along Ranford Road and Bannister Road puts a lot of workplaces inside the suburb, and a workplace has a different filtration problem to a family.
Volume is the main one. A cartridge specified on household use will get through its life in a fraction of the expected time behind a coffee machine, a glass washer or a production line — and the owner usually concludes the filter was poor quality when really it was sized for the wrong job.
Downtime is the other. Water off for part of a morning is an inconvenience in a house and a trading day in a café. We work out the isolation window before anything is cut rather than during.
And siting matters more. Commercial filters end up in plant rooms, behind fixed joinery or outside near the meter, and whether the cartridge can be changed there without moving something heavy belongs on the quote. Commercial water filtration
Kitchen or mains?

Under-sink
if the complaint is the taste, the smell or the chlorine in your drinking water. It treats the one tap you drink from, thoroughly, and it is the cheapest correct answer. Under-sink installation
Mains
if the complaint is showing up in the shower, the laundry, on your fittings or in an appliance. It treats everything downstream reasonably rather than one tap thoroughly. Reverse osmosis

What is in the supply
Perth's Integrated Water Supply Scheme, which feeds Canning Vale, is a blend of roughly 44.6% groundwater, 36% desalinated seawater and 18.7% surface water, plus a little groundwater replenishment. The proportions move through the year, which is why the water can taste different between seasons with nothing wrong at your end.
Water Corporation puts elevated hardness at 200 mg/L under the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. Hardness is dissolved minerals rather than particles — it is what scales a kettle and a hot water system, and what makes soap harder to lather. A carbon cartridge does not remove it. If that is the complaint, we will tell you which type of system does and which does not.
Bores and reticulation
About one in four Perth household gardens runs off a private bore drawing on the shallow Superficial aquifer.
Bore water is untreated groundwater and it stays entirely separate from the scheme water in the house.
